Summary

Albert recalls his childhood and upbringing on Thursday Island; his ancestors and the history and mythology of the Torres Strait Islands; his education and formative experiences up to his audition at the National Aboriginal and Islander Skills Development Association (NAISDA) and subsequent move to Sydney. He speaks about training at NAISDA; his participation in the Bangarra Dance Theatre's production of Rites which premiered in 1999 and international tour of the work; his involvement with the Australian Ballet's production of Spartacus; and his aspirations for his future career.

Biography/History Albert David, a choreographer, dancer & teacher of contemporary dance and jazz. His dance creations incorporate Aboriginal traditional dance, including dance from the Torres Strait Islands. He was born on Thursday Island, Torres Strait in 1971, accepted in 1989 by the National Aboriginal Islander Skills Development Association (NAISDA) from which he graduated with a Diploma of Dance, 1994. He joined Bangarra Dance Theatre in 1995 as a choreographer and dancer.
