The collection consists mainly of handwritten and typescript notes made by Carter during his research into foresty, botany and agriculture. These notes vary from his lecture notes and exam papers on general agriculture to drafts of his publications on the planting of pine forest in southern New South Wales. Actual specimens and photographs of specimens accompany some of the notes. Also in the collection are various journals and publications of the N.S.W. Dept. of Agriculture and publications prepared by the Commonwealth Department of the Interior for Canberra gardeners.
- Biography/History:

C.E. Carter (1885-1976), M.F. (Yale), B. Ag. Sc., Dep. Ed. (Melb.) joined the Commonwealth Public Service in 1906. He became a lecturer in the Australian Forestry School in 1937 and later lectured in botany at the A.C.T. Technical College.
