Summary

Penberthy speaks of his family background, education, early interests in music and experiences studying at the Melbourne conservatorium. He talks about his early work with the National Theatre, founding the National Theatre Ballet Company, experiences composing and conducting ballets and travelling and studying in Europe under a scholarship. He discusses Australian music, composers and performances, operas and ballets with Aboriginal themes, ABC productions, the history of government assistance to composers and the Australian Music Centre. He speaks about his compositions, teaching and the founding of the Northern Rivers College conservatorium, his involvement in meditation and relaxation and his aspirations for the future.
