Brown, veteran of the Boer War and World War I, speaks about serving in the Boer War in the Cape Mounted Rifles; diamond mining in South Africa; African wildlife; travelling to Cape Town from England by sailing ship; life in London in the late nineteenth century; his family background; coming to Australia in 1906; working as a bricklayer for the railways; diamond mining in the Kimberley Mine; the story of how Cecil Rhodes would compete with Barney Barnado for the best diamonds; seving in World War I in Egypt and Gallipoli with the First A.I.F.; Barnato's drinking problem; how he heard through his regiment that Breaker Morant had actually deliberately killed 3 or 4 Boer prisoners despite the allegations of political corruption; Eighteenth Battalion; Baden-Powell; lawn bowls; and the future of Australia.
