MS 1053 pertains primarily to the blockade of the Daintree Road in 1984 and some later activities of Toohey in relation to tourism development plans at Port Douglas. The collection contains diary entries, notes, reports, personal narratives, magazines, newsletters of various environmental groups and photographs. There are press releases, correspondence, zoning applications, strategic plans for redevelopment, draft reports on zoning and tourist developments, minutes of the Shire of Douglas Council meetings including the Cook/Daintree Land-use Study Committee. The collection also includes Shelburne Bay environmental impact statement (1984), Investigation of tidal lands and tidal waters of the Great Barrier Reef (1986) and a typescript of reminiscences by Toohey recorded in 1996 (3 boxes, 1 fol. box).
The Acc06.014 instalment comprises further letters, circulars, newsletters and cuttings concerning the Daintree Forest, Cape Tribulation and conservation matters in Queensland (1 box).
The Acc12.029 instalment comprises photographs pertaining to the Cape Tribulation blockade including protestors, construction machinery and crews, police, media, boggy dirt road and Daintree Rainforest plus a group of personal photographs of property (1 v.).
- Biography/History:

On the morning of November 30, 1983 about 80 men, women and children took up positions in the Cape Tribulation rainforest to block oncoming bulldozers. As chair of the Wildlife Action Group environmentalist Antony Toohey was active in protests to block the development of the Bloomfield Track from Cape Tribulation through the Daintree Rainforest in north Queensland, and participated in other campaigns for landscape protection in Queensland. Toohey died in March 2000.
