Cotton, detailing day by day his visits to Newgate Gaol, conversations with prisoners, their crimes, last hours of the condemned, their executions, confessions and other matters. Bound in vellum and inscribed on the front cover: Extracts from the visiting books of Newgate, kept in the hands of Dr Macmurdo surgeon of Newgate (1 v.).
