MS 6094 mainly comprises drafts of plays, novels and short stories, and diaries (originals, photocopies and extracts compiled for Minitudes), together with letters, postcards, greeting cards and press cuttings. The drafts include A wild ass of a man, A salute to the great McCarthy, Let's hear it for Prendergast, The feet of Daniel Mannix, Marsupials, The ship's whistle, Bedfellows and The great god Mogadan. Correspondents include David Allen, Thea Astley, Murray Bail, Graeme Blundell, A.T. Bolton, Katharine Brisbane, Vincent Buckley, Jack Carmody, Barry Dickens, Bob Ellis, Bill Hannan, Jack Hibberd, A.D. Hope, Richard Hughes, David Ireland, Susan Kurosawa, Morris Lurie, David Martin, Craig McGregor, Frank Moorhouse, Gerald Murnane, Desmond O'Grady, A.G. Serle, Michael Sharkey, David Williamson, Amy Witting and Fay Zwicky (9 boxes, 2 folders).
The Acc08.066 instalment includes diaries for 2001 and 2002; letters from various correspondents, including Gerald Murnane, John Tranter, Peter Slezak and Bill Leak; and, copies of some outgoing letters (1 box).
The Acc11.073 instalment comprises eight appointment diaries with detailed notes and commentaries; correspondence and other papers relating to author Gerald Murnane; and personal and professional correspondence (1 box).

Playwright, novelist and editor. Barry Kingham Oakley was born in Melbourne in 1931. Oakley's plays include From the desk of Eugene Flockhart (1966), Bedfellows (1975), Scanlan (1988) and Music (2012). His novels include A salute to the Great McCarthy (1969) and Let's hear it for Prendergast (1970) for which he was joint winner of the 1970 Captain Cook Bicentenary Award. His autobiography, titled Mug shots: a memoir, was published in 2012. Oakley was also literary editor for The Australian newspaper.
