Summary

Caricature of Thomas Strange(r) Heiss Oscar Asche in the role of the beggar Hajj from the play Kismet.

Biography/History Oscar Asche, 1871-1936, born in Geelong, Vic. In 1890 he travelled to Norway, then London to study acting and the theatre. He and his wife Lily Brayton formed a theatre company in London in 1904. Asche, Brayton and the company toured Australia several times, the 1912-1913 tour included Kismet, in which Asche played the role of Hajj.
