| Summary |
Lord arrived in Freemantle, W.A. from England with his family in the early 20th century. He recalls his early years in the forest regions of southwest corner of Western Australia; from 1920s the family's years on the land near Busselton, W.A. clearing a small plot of some 40 acres for farming and grazing; how during times of hardship such as the Depression, people lived of the land (bush tucker) and caught possums to survive; his work as an axeman with the Group 44 region (timber workers), located just south of Busselton, W.A. & in the Tuart Forest, W.A.; working at the sawmill (Tuart Forest); life in the timber camps; techniques used for clearing land, cutting timber and fire management. He recalls how conservation issues such as renewable forest resources were dealt with by the bushmen of the early 20th century, who worked in the timber industry compared to Forestry practices of more recent times.
