MS 8405 comprises photocopies and typescripts (some corrected) of John W. Burton's published papers, conference/seminar addresses and lectures. Most of the papers date from the 1980s and cover such topics as international conflict resolution, development and other issues in international relations. There is also a collection of miscellaneous correspondence, notes, address lists, meeting reports and memoranda, mostly relating to the functions and operations of the Centre for the Analysis of Conflict. Also included are photocopies of newspaper cuttings (6 boxes).
The Acc09.034 instalment is a copy of the published article "Civilizations in crisis: from adversarial to problem solving processes" by John W. Burton, published in International journal of peace studies, vol. 1, no. 1 (1996) (1 folder).
- Biography/History:

John Wear Burton was Secretary to the Department of External Affairs, 1947-1950; Reader in International Relations, University College, London, 1963-1978, and Director of the Centre for the Analysis of Conflict, University of Kent at Canterbury, 1978-1982. In 1982 Burton received an International Studies Association Fellowship at South Carolina. After completion of this Fellowship in 1985, he joined the George Mason University, Fairfax, United States.
