Thomas Griffith Taylor was born at Walthamstow, England, in 1880. Taylor was senior geologist with the British (Terra Nova) Antarctic Expedition, 1910-1913 under Robert F. Scott; physiographer for the Commonwealth Weather Service, 1910-1920, and helped survey the Federal Capital Site, 1912-1913. He later became senior professor of geography, University of Chicago, 1929-1935, and head of the Department of Geography, University of Toronto, 1935-1951. In 1913, he and E.T. Quayle wrote the first textbook on Australian meteorology, Climate and weather of Australia.
