Debrincat speaks about his family background on Gozo; his parents' farm; his schooling; work at Valletta, Malta; reasons for emigration to Australia; contacts at Innisfail, Qld; voyage on the 'Moreton Bay' in 1936; rail journey from Brisbane to Innisfail; accommodation and work at Innisfail; Maltese community at Innisfail; Captain Henry Curmi; contact with Malta; father's emigration to Australia in 1913; move to Sydney from Innisfail in 1941; recruitment into the Army; employment at Port Kembla steel works in 1945; search for work in Melbourne in 1949; meeting ships carrying Maltese migrants at Port Melbourne; assistance to other Maltese migrants; return to Wollongong in 1953; visits to Malta; sense of ethnic identity; description of cutting sugar cane in the late 1930s; the Maltese and the Australian Workers' Union.
