Reichelt discusses the reasons for the establishment of the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) during the 1960s and talks about its early history. He then describes the reef metabolism project of early 1980s, its current status and development of a UV blocker. Reichelt then discusses the development of the "wet PC" or computers capable of operating in harsh environments. He then discusses the corporate culture of AIMS; Reichelt Report on a proposal to build a resort at Oyster Point near Caldwell, Qld.; environmental activism and the relationship between AIMS and Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. Reichelt then discusses a program on seafood quality which is being funded by the Fisheries Corporation. He then gives his views on ways of increasing general knowledge of various environmental problems such as coral bleaching and greenhouse effect on the Reef. Reichelt then considers his future career directions.
