| Summary |
Collection of twenty-eight pieces primarily coloured aerial propaganda leaflets in a cartoon format, dropped by the Japanese on Guadalcanal and probably other islands in the Solomon Islands group. Their target audience were the Allies particularly the Australians and Americans with the aim of creating a rift between them, the propaganda playing on the Australians' perceptions of the Americans as "oversexed, overpaid and over there" as many fights broke out in Australia over the women. The memorabilia consists of two Japanese flags, Army and Navy, an American newspaper collage on silk, Japanese occupation money, photographs of the owner with this collection, Frank Bell.

| Biography/History |
During World War II Guadalcanal was a British Protectorate and Bougainville Island part of the mandated territories of Australia as was Rabaul the major city on New Britain Island, belonging to New Guinea. Guadalcanal, Bougainville Island belong to the Solomon Islands chain and this proximity played an important role in the Solomons Campaigns to occupy them. The Battle for Guadalcanal began in August 1942 and in the early stages involved a division of Australian cruisers (incl. the Australia and Hobart). Coastwatchers, an Australian initiative, was used on Bougainville and organised by the RAN. Once Guadalcanal was re-occupied by the Americans in 1943, Australians were involved in mopping up operations which lasted until 1944. Rabaul was the air hub for activities in New Guinea and the Solomons. To the Japanese it was the centre from which the projected invasion of Australia was to occur.
