James "Goori" Dungay born in 1958 at Burnt Bridge, speaks about his childhood; moving to town at around 8 years of age when the 'assimilation' policy started; living in tin shacks; elders speaking Djunghutti language; initiation ceremonies being stopped; being prevented from carrying on traditions; hearing stories of massacres in the valley; attending Burnt Bridge School, East Kempsey and Kempsey High School; spending time with family; his experiences of racism; his parents background; his mother's whistling; Aboriginal society; his boilermaking apprenticeship; his interest in music from about age 20; playing guitar at the Aboriginal church; an Australia Day Award and other awards; playing gospel music; learning to play the gum leaf; hunting technique to catch birds; talks about and mimics different birds; Aboriginal lore; the signs of the bush; listening to the birds; passing on traditions to the young ones; comments about the local Aboriginal community.
