Summary

"The Snowy Mountain Authority and the Australian Department of Information employed photographers to record the progress of this monumental venture. Their images were mostly carefully staged and sanitized, providing an idealised version of events. My candid photos for PEOPLE and PIX magazines showed life as it really was, below and above ground - not always glamorous images of a project that claimed a life and many serious injuries for every mile of tunnel dug. (NB: gallery title of this image is A LIFE PER MILE)." -- Description supplied by photographer.
