The MS 9778 collection includes Library Association of Australia (LAA) and Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) correspondence relating to branch and head office business, awards, visits and speeches made while Edwards was ALIA president, papers relating to the relocation of ALIA Head Office from Ultimo, Sydney, to Canberra and the building of the Canberra office. There are conference, constitution and discussion papers; branch correspondence; building contracts and plans; Parliamentary submissions and by-laws. Subjects include the role of librarians, library technicians and teacher librarians, information technology in the workforce, library access, presidency of ALIA headquarters and the use of copyright material in churches (6 boxes, 1 fol. item).

Primarily relating to Edwards' involvement with the Uniting Church, including her local congregation, the Canberra Presbytery and the New South Wales Synod. Issues represented in the papers include aged care facilities, the role of women in the church, homosexuality, consultations with congregations, congregational reviews, complaint resolution, other Presbytery matters, the National Centre for Christianity and Culture and Brindabella Christian College. Also included are two files of librarianship-related professional writings, such as articles, seminar papers and book reviews (5 boxes).
The Acc13.054 instalment comprises papers relating to Averill Edward's involvement in various organisations, including; the Uniting Church of Australia, including for the NSW Synod, the Canberra Region Presbytery and the Weston Creek congregation; the Presbytery Research and Planning Committee; the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) and the National Library of Australia; the Braddon Tennis Club (3 boxes).
- Biography/History:

Librarian. Averill Margaret Bruen Edwards was a teacher prior to joining the National Library of Australia, where she was employed from 1968-1999. Edwards has long been involved with various library associations, including serving terms as President of the ACT Branch of the Library Association of Australia and the Australian Library and Information Association. Edwards had also been active within the Uniting Church in Australia at the regional and state level and, as at 2004, was the only laywoman to have been Presbytery Chairperson.
