MS Acc03.223 comprises correspondence, notes, cuttings and photographs; drafts of The real Matilda and The imaginary Australian and associated correspondence, publicity material and reviews; drafts of chapters, articles, seminar papers and lectures, with occasional correspondence, miscellaneous cuttings, conference proceedings, and academic documents. Correspondents include Margaret Mead, Manning Clark, Barry Jones and Peter Carey (6 boxes).
The Acc04.024 instalment includes manuscripts and correspondence files (8 boxes, 1 folio box).
The Acc10.048 instalment comprises news clippings relating to publications on Australian women, including International Women's Year publications, handwritten notes on John Hooker, Anne Summers interviews with Dixson, correspondence, including letters from various United States feminist scholars on The real Matilda such as Joan Jacobs Brumberg and Joyce Berkman, letters from publishers and agents on publishing The real Matilda in the United States, letters to and from various academics including Stuart McIntyre and Jim Walter, conference and seminar papers, typescripts and drafts of book reviews and journal articles on feminist topics (2 boxes).
- Biography/History:

Historian and academic. Miriam Dixson was born in Melbourne in 1930 and studied at the University of Melbourne where she completed a Master of Arts degree in history, and at the Australian National University where she received a Ph.D. for a thesis on the Australian labour movement. Dixson has taught history from primary school to university. She began work on women and identity in 1967, and in 1978, as a senior Fulbright scholar, and in 1986, as an honorary fellow at Harvard University, she studied the comparative history of women and identity in the United States. She is a member of the former Australian Commission for the Future. Dixson is the author of The real Matilda: woman and identity in Australia, 1788 to the present (4th ed., 1999), and The imaginary Australian: Anglo-Celts and identity, 1788 to the present (1999). Dixson is an honorary fellow in the history department of the University of New England in Armidale, New South Wales.
