| Biography/History |
A leading Australian composer, Banks lived in London from 1953 to 1972. During this period his works were commissioned and premiered by major orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra. In 1973 he became the first chairman of the Music Board, Australia Council. He was one of the most successful 'third stream' composers (works merging jazz with 'serious' music)
