Tapes 1-16: Margaret Davidson Mackie, born 1914 at Neutral Bay, Sydney speaks about her first memories; her family background; growing up with her brother John Leslie Mackie who was born in 1917, at "Drumgrain" Wahroonga.; visiting Scotland with her family in 1921; being home schooled until aged 9; attending Abbotsleigh Girls School; studying at Sydney University from 1932 to 1937; completing two terms of Diploma of Education; studying at Oxford University as a resident of Somerville College from 1937 to 1939; achieving first class Honours in English, Politics and Philosophy; the war breaking out whilst in Oxford; the trip back to Australia; completing the Diploma of Education at the College in Sydney; teaching at Ashfield, Grenfell, Lismore and Coffs Harbour; visiting England in 1949 and returning on New Year's Day 1951; talks about her brothers life, education, war service and family; her posting to Armidale Teacher's College in 1951; working there until her retirement in 1974.
