- Biography/History:

The Brown family lived in Glasgow in the early 1850s, when the head of the family was Mrs Margaret A. Brown. Her children included Jane Hay Brown, schoolteacher, Jessie, Maggie and James W. Brown, a Presbyterian minister. The Hoey family were old friends of the Browns. James and Thomas Hoey migrated to Victoria in 1852.
