Clapham, opera conductor, speaks about his childhood in Hastings, New Zealand; his family background; coming to Australia to see opera in 1935; time as organ scholar at St Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne; the National Theatre movement; conducting The Marriage of Figaro' for the National Theatre; playing piano for dance classes for the Borovansky Company; Ballet Russes; his musical activities during World War II; his wife; 1947 New Zealand tour by the Borovansky Company; Melbourne National Theatre Opera, 1948-1955; opera coaching; 1950 National Theatre Ballet production of Corroboree; his recording of Corroboree; conducting technique for opera and ballet; country tours by opera companies; demise of the Melbourne National Theatre Company.
