Historian and writer, Edward Adrian Joseph Duyker, was born in Melbourne in 1955, to a Mauritian mother and Dutch father. Educated at De La Salle College, Malvern, Victoria, and La Trobe University. Completing his doctorate at the University of Melbourne in 1981. Dr. Duyker is widely published in the field of Australian history, particularly ethnic history, exploration and the natural sciences. His book, 'Citizen Labillardiere: a naturalists' life in revolution and exploration' was awarded the New South Wales' Premier's General History Prize in 2004. Dr. Duyker was awarded the Order of Australia in 2004 and the French Government made him a Chevalier dans l'ordre des Palmes Academiques in 2000. In 1998, he was elected to the Linnean Society of London as a Fellow and in 2000 to the Royal Historical Society and the Royal Geographical Society. He was Honorary Consul for Mauritius in New South Wales from November 1996 to February 2002. In 2003, he held an Australia Council Residency in Paris for three months.
