The collection provides a comprehensive record of McIntyre's research and writing of The secret discovery of Australia: Portuguese ventures 200 years before Captain Cook (1977), the public responses to the book, and his continuing interest in Portuguese exploration in the Pacific. In addition there are papers on the Victorian Football League, the Australian Football League and his Cyclic Permutator, papers on legal and local government matters, cutting books on nudism, certificates and awards, correspondence and publications.

Lawyer, historian and author. McIntyre was a Melbourne lawyer who for many years worked as a legal adviser to governments on housing. He was also an historian of sixteenth century Portuguese exploration and navigation in the Pacific, and the author of, The secret discovery of Australia: Portuguese ventures 200 years before Captain Cook (1977), and, The Rebello transcripts: Governor Phillip's Portuguese prelude (1984). McIntyre is also known as the inventor of the McIntyre Cyclic Permutator, the machine which draws up the AFL's “home-and-away” programme each year.
