A small number of photocopies of papers relating to Dudley Fegan's early life. There are newspaper cuttings of articles he wrote and typescripts of a lecture and two articles. There are biographical notes prepared by his daughter, Kay Beagle.

Fegan commenced his career as a journalist, reporting for the Adelaide Register. His interest in exploration led him to central Australia and study of Aboriginal languages. He was based at the Hermannsburg Mission and was made a member of the Arunta tribe. Under the pseudonym Dudley Emm, he wrote a book about his experiences entitled Kurrakapinya : an interpretation of Centralian legend, which was published in the 1920s. After moving to Sydney, Fegan found his niche in radio broadcasting. He was General Manager of the Australian Record Company, having joined the board in 1940. With the introduction of television, Fegan set up a film company, producing documentaries on a wide range of subjects.
