Dr Peter B. Maling is a New Zealand author and historian. He was a friend and correspondent of Rex Nan Kivell.

The collection consists mainly of letters from Rex Nan Kivell to Peter B. Maling, discussing books both were writing. Nan Kivell refers to publishing Portraits of the famous and infamous : Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, 1492-1970. Maling was most likely in the midst of writing The Torlesse papers , published 1958. There is also a photocopy of newspaper articles, written by P.B. Maling in The Press, which refer to Rex Nan Kivell and his collection.
