"The aims of the seminar were to: encourage older people to maximise their independence by dealing, proactively, with hearing loss - inform older people about hearing loss, who it affects and its impact - inform older people of the services available to assist them and issues to consider when choosing services and products - improve understanding of how to minimise barriers to communication caused by hearing loss, and offer an opportunity for discussion of older peoples̉ concerns about hearing loss, any issues that need addressing or gaps in services. The seminar attracted approximately 100 older people. This included people from a wide range of older peoples̉ organisations, as well as individuals" -- Introduction.
