John Schumann talks about his family background, parents, grandparents and siblings; his memories of all aspects of his youth; his education; scouting and its role in his life; attending Flinders University to take up a bonded scholarship for teaching; his early interest in music; the formation of the band, Redgum; his early teaching experiences; influence of this time on early Redgum music, their first recording; record company problems and management; the story behind his hit single 'I Was Only 19'; his regrets about Redgum which split in May 1986 and the final tour; his solo album 'Etched in Blue'
Schumann discusses how he became involved in formal politics with the Australian Democrats; his move to stand as a Federal Lower House candidate in the seat of Mayo; working with Meg Lees; the GST story from the Democrats' and his perspective; his memories of events during his time with the Australian Democrats; his exit from political life and his moves into consulting and communication; the success of his own business and rekindling of his interest in music; Brian Medlin, his influence and views.
