Questions & answers on miscellaneous topics: theology, science, mathematics, medicine, customs, manners, etc. Includes foreign news; news of the war, exchange, shipping, adverts.; much verse, often ribald. A rival of Dunton's Athenian news (see esp. March 1710 onwards). Attributed by Morgan to Mr Smith, by Graham to Wm Smith the antiquary (although DNB does not associate Brit. Ap. with him); dedication of some later eds. subscribed Marshal Smith; Selections from the British Apollo ed. by G.W. Niven, 1903, has section on authorship (not seen, but cf. N&Q ser.9, viii 3aug1901). Possible contributors: A. Hill, Sam. Garth, J. Arbuthnot.

Vol. 1 includes Supernumerary paper, no. 1-12, Apr. 1708-Mar. 1709 and Quarterly paper, no. 1-2. Vol. 2 includes Supernumerary paper, no. 1-9, Apr.-Dec. 1709 and Quarterly paper, no. 1-3.
