This chart shows the Society Islands particularly the neighborhood of Wallis' King Georges Island or Otaheite [i.e. Tahiti], extending out to the Scilly Islands in the west and to the Whitsunday Island in the east, from Disappointment Island in the north to Ohetiroa in the south. The map features the undated sea-tracks of the voyages of four well-known Pacific explorers - Commodre Byron in the Dolphin accompanied by Captain Philip Mouat in the Tamar (June 1765), British explorers Samuel Wallis and Philip Cateret (1767-68), Lieutenant James Cook (April 1769).
