Hedley Yelland talks about his early life and family; his education including university; attending teacher's college; teaching; meeting his future wife Eileen; the move to Newcastle; the Depression; the Married Women Teachers' Act, forcing his wife to give up teaching; subsequent promotions; people he worked with; problems with unions; war influences on schools; the eventual move to Goulburn High as Headmaster; his education philosophy; leaving teaching to become an Inspector of Secondary schools; the duties of inspectors and teacher promotions; his role as Inspector in Charge of Speech and Drama; the Wyndham Scheme and Report in 1957; his involvement with the implementation of the scheme; the recommendations of the Wyndham Report and what remains of it now; Sir Harold Wyndham; his promotion to Deputy-Director General of Education; his appointment as the Education Member of the Public Service Board; his two years in the position and what was involved; his retirement in 1971; his extra-curricular activities; his involvement with different Trusts, Committees and Councils; his writing.
