Delaney speaks of his earliest theatrical memories with actors like Evie Hayes and Roy Rene, compares differences in television and stage techniques, his discovery of amateur theatre groups, identifies the qualities required in a leading lady, evaluates Kates Blanchett and Nicole Kidman, how he was introduced to directing by his aunt Sylvia using concert parties, his first directorial experience, his first professional acting part in the Sound of Music, wining an award for Best Actor of the Year for his work in "A Christmas Carol" and a Director's Award for "Young Married at Play", his work in cabaret following the demise of the Theatre Royal in Brisbane, why he left Brisbane to pursue his theatrical ambitions, his relationship with his mother, his work for a year in Melbourne as a set dresser on Channel 0, his on-camera with Jimmy Hannan and his work on various children's shows, the formation of the Actors Company and its aims and inital productions, the contribution to the Company by Sonia Gidley Scott, why their move to the Seymour Centre failed but was successful while at the Esme Hackett Theatre in Ultimo, the demise of the Company, the importance of casting the right director who can get a great performance out of his actors, how he directs actors in nude scenes, the technique of "letting go" of the production, why he is attracted to directing, an audition by Carmen Duncan for the Rainmaker, the importance of lighting and music to his productions, his admiration for the works of director Joshua Logan, Patti Lupone in Evita and Maggie Smith in A Bed of Lentils, how a performance is created, the importance of a star.
