Notes

Map of the newly founded city of Adelaide presenting a modest grid for the northern city centre and a larger grid for the southern city centre and divided by the Torrens River that flows through the middle of the city. The map includes street names and numbers and features a number of park-like squares. At the bottom of the map are reference tables to Northern Adelaide and to Southern Adelaide listing by running number the residences of important people as well as naming public buildings and private companies. An Index to the Planning shows boundaries, fences and houses/buildings by type of construction.

A table headed Memoranda lists historical dates in the founding of the city from the act to colonise South Australia in 1834 to the residences established in Adelaide as shown on this map, dated 1st Jany. 1842. It also includes population statistics as of 1842, climate parameters, and agricultural production - figures are based on the South Australian almanack of 1842. Ground cover is shown pictorially.
