O'Brien talks about his family background; brass bands and early jobs; joining Ule King's dance band playing the tenor saxophone; move to Sydney to Callan Park Mental Hospital; completed nursing and learnt saxophone. He then talks about musical influences and becoming a professional musician in 1961. O'Brien then talks about his return to work in mental health while still playing in dance bands. He became the first non-handicapped President of Maimed and Limbless Society. O'Brien then talks about joining Corrective Services; music in gaols; formation of Corrective Services Brass Band and its performances. He then talks about the many talented musicians in gaol; teaching music; Koori music; Kirconnell Corrective Centre Band and working in gaols.
