The collection belonged to the late Dr John Cooper, a notable Australian historian of the Theosophical Movement. The collection consists of nearly 4,000 books and pamphlets, more than 240 serial titles and 31 large boxes of archival material. The book component has been kept together as a formed collection. The serials have been integrated into the Library's Serials Collection and the archival component is housed in the Manuscripts Stack.
Monographs cover many fields including theosophy, comparative religion, Buddhism, Eastern philosophies, esoterica, Indian religions, the Liberal Catholic Church, spiritualism, Tibet, yoga and Zen. The serials have a heavier emphasis on theosophy, many being newsletters and journals from theosophical groups around the world.
All monograph and serial titles from the collection are individually catalogued.
All catalogue records for monographs and serials in this collection have a note field "Dr John Cooper Theosophy Collection". Searching on this phrase will retrieve all items.
