This interview with the amateur cine-photographer Peter Bassett Smith describes his early years in Argentina and UK; his move with his mother to Melbourne, Vic. in 1921; his education at Grimwade House and Geelong Grammar; employment at a Melbourne timber firm; his acquisition of a cine camera in 1930; business activities as an importer; his World War II service in Greece, Syria and Australia; filmmaking in New Caledonia; an invitation to be the cine-photographer on the 1948 American-Australian Scientific Expedition to Arnhem Land, led by Charles Mountford; detailed description of the expedition which lasted from March to November 1948.
