Five letters from A.B. "Banjo" Paterson, also known as "Barty", to his niece Doris Kennedy (nee Lumsdaine, formerly of Melbourne) who lived in Ireland. Letter dated 7 Feb. 1915 written on board the T.S.S. Euripides 'I have been called back to Sydney nothing more to do in London or at scene of war ...'.Letter from Heliopolis dated 8 May 1916 discusses the horses and riders at the AIF Australian Remount Service camp where Paterson was stationed as a Captain. Letter from Heliopolis dated 15 June 1916 discusses living conditions, the horses and mules in the Australian Remount Service in Egypt, the Irish Revolt, the Kennedy's horses and Lady Blunt's Arabians. Letter from Heliopolis dated 12 Aug. 1916 discusses AIF camp conditions and the Kennedy's racehorses. Letter from Edgecliffe, Sydney, envelope dated 15 Sept. 1920 discusses Paterson's editorship of the Sydney sportsman, horse racing and Paterson's family.
- Biography/History:

Poet, journalist, solicitor. "Banjo" Paterson served in World War I as an ambulance driver in the Australian Hospital, Bourlogne, 1914-15. In 1915 he joined the Australian Remount Service in Egypt and Palestine. By the end of the War he had risen to the rank of Major.
