Lesley Peterkin, born 1934, in Lismore, N.S.W, discusses his family and background; his education; Peter Imburger; his decision to be a Physical Education teacher; becoming interested in music through his mother; his first appointment to Mosman Intermediate High where he spent 5 years; on completion of his bond, heading overseas; National Fitness Camps; Terence Hunt; music camps; resigned from Education Department after Mosman; his National Service (1953); the Manly Pipe Band; the Sydney University Regimental Pipe Band; the Citizens Military Force (CMF) and his involvement in Cadets; Jock McClymont; Gordon Young; John Denison; Beverley Frame and Freddie Frame; going to Vancouver (1959) touring the U.S.A.; travelling to the U.K., working in a school in South London; teaching in the Lakes District for Outward Bound; attending a course at Ollerup in Denmark; the return trip to Sydney; Ben Cropp; becoming director of Lake Lodge at Myuna Bay National Fitness Camp (1961); the Australian School of Pacific Administration (ASOPA).
Peterkin speaks about his work as Physical Education lecturer at Mosman (1961-1964); visiting Port Moresby (1961), taking students for practice teaching; filming the P.N.G. work which was later accepted by the National Film Archives who put them on D.V.D.; refers to 'The two of us' SBS program, using his footage; visits to P.N.G. with students (1962 and 1963); Jim Burns; attending ASOPA re-unions; going into primary teaching at Chatswood Primary School (1965-1967); Ted Weissel; working with art and music, creating a work 'Wonderful World of Dreams', entering Primary Schools Drama Festival; Terence Hunt; the Red Cross show; transferring to North Balgowlah Primary School; resigning from the department; a job as assistant art master at Shore School; Principal Jika Travis; how he and his partner, Bill Gill decided to work in ballet (1969); their yacht; departmental problems; the Ballet school (1970) evolving into a ballet company, Sydney Festival Ballet Company; Marilyn Burr and her partner; programmes of Festival Ballet; refers to names of dancers; the company's demise.

Les Peterkin has had a varied career, first as a teacher involved in Physical Education and the National Fitness organisation in N.S.W. He is an active musician, bagpipe player and artist, his pottery and ceramics have been highly acclaimed. He is currently Artist in Residence at Lindisfarne College on the Gold Coast and is expanding his artistic fields, moving into stained glass, painting and silver smithing. He also is the accompanist for local singing and dance groups including the 'Golden Girls', who perform around the Gold Coast and Tweed region.
