American officials, Australian-Vietnamese relations, propaganda and effect of war; role as Ambassador to Taiwan, 1969-72 & closure of Embassy; Ambassadorship to Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay & Peru; South American political conditions; Nairobi appointment, including Uganda, Ethiopia, Seychelles, UNEP & Habitat; East African political conditions; Ambassador to China, 1980-84; Chinese political conditions; Australian-Chinese relations; changes observed in Dept. of Foreign Affairs over 30 years; relations between Canberra and overseas offices; Departmental Secretaries; views on Foreign Ministers; Australian-Asian relations; contemporary Australian foreign policy; China-Japan relations; Chinese military policy; foreign views of Australia.
