Summary

Papers assembled by Clare documenting her own writing which includes short stories, articles, reviews, plays, poems and a book The struggle for the Great Barrier Reef. Early papers reflect the relationship between her aunt, Violet Canty, and Bland Holt. There are also early documents of her mother, Claire Parkes. There are two photos of Mary Gilmore and a copy of one of her books inscribed to Patricia Canty. There is an 'Occasional book' which contains poetry, newspaper cuttings and memorabilia of her husband, Harry Scholer. The collection includes correspondence pertaining to her publications and many letters written defending the welfare of animals. Correspondents include E.G. Whitlam, R.J. Hawke, J. Fahey and N.F. Greiner. Restricted material includes correspondence with The New Yorker regarding short stories and poems submitted for publication (restricted during Clare's lifetime). Also, Clare's typescript diary and notes, Feb. 1996-Dec. 1997 (restricted until 30 years after Clare's death).

Biography/History Playwright and journalist. Clare has worked as a professional journalist and is a writer of short stories which have appeared in various publications. She has also written dramatisations for radio broadcasts. In 1971 she published "The struggle for the Great Barrier Reef".
