- In 1940 Prime Minister Menzies appointed R.G. Casey as the first Australian Ambassador to the United States and head of the legation in Washington.
- The Casey's pet dog was a dashound pup called Mizr. Mizr went with the Caseys in their travels and is buried in the grounds of Edrington, the old Berwick home of the Caseys.
