Summary

AFAO website link to The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Gay, Sistergirl and Transgender HIV/AIDS - Sexual Health Project; established at AFAO after a recommendation from Anwernekenhe 1, the first National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Gay, Men, Sistergirl, Transgender Sexual Health Conference; 45 recommendations were made, and the establishment of the National Indigenous Gay & Transgender Working Party, now known as the Indigenous Strategic Alliance (ISA), was put in place to implement the recommendations; further conferences have led the project to groundbreaking improvements in meeting the challenges of HIV/AIDS and sexual health in Australia; Australia contributed to a landmark document called The Toronto Charter - Indigenous Peoples Action Plan on HIV/AIDS 2006, now simply known as The Toronto Charter, which, according to Colin Ross, an Australian representative, is a blueprint to ensure Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are actively involved in the 'education, prevention, treatment, care and support in timely and effective responses that are culturally sensitive and appropriate'
