Summary

Ruth Osborne speaks about her family and schooling; her mother's influence; the Bodenweiser Dance Studio; her teachers, Margaret Chapel and Keith Bain (1960); City Road Studio; the Horton Techniques; Martha Grahame; Nanette Hassall; visiting overseas dancers; her involvement in dance and television 'Bandstand'; expansion of her dancing knowledge (1969-1972); working on cruise ships, 'Chandos Line' and meeting her husband; becoming a choreographer; the difficulties of performing at sea; working with Bodenweiser and National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA); moving to Perth and beginning her own school; development of the Contemporary Dance Centre; how the school ended; her early times in Perth; the birth of her child; building up children's classes, Jazz, classical, contemporary; teacher training in dance; her husband's work.

Osborne talks about her choreography development and involvement in the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA); establishing the 'Steps' Company, 'Buzz Dance Theatre'; her moving to Canberra in (1999); working with the Australian Choreography Centre and the establishment of Youth Programmes; the QLT Centre for dance; Solom Ulbrich; explains how funding works; the future of training workshops; being inspired by working with young people; support from the community; regional touring; wanting youth programmes to be valued equally with adult theatre; her future plans; needing funding from the Australia Council to establish a National Centre for dance excellence and research centre.
