The collection mainly includes log books, photographs and other material relating to Whiting's war service with the RAAF; correspondence and logbooks relating to his employment witht the Bush Pilots for the Flying Surgeon Service and press releases, aircraft notes, air photo specifications, photographs and a personal narrative relating to air photography work in Antarctica. Also includes passports; diaries; trade certificates, 1933-1939; documents relating to farming activities, 1940s-1957; flight plans, aeronautical charts of Australia and the United States, aircraft manuals, pilot licences and other papers.

Aircraft pilot. Squadron leader of 76 Squadron, RAAF, stationed at Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea during World War II. President of the Griffith Aero Club, ca. 1945-1955. Whiting worked as a pilot on aerial surveying and charter work in the 1950s and 1960s based at Bankstown including charter work for the Snowy Mountains Scheme. From 1960 to 1963 he flew with the Flying Surgeon Service at Longreach and in 1965 flew survey flights in Antarctica. From 1967 to 1970 he flew with the Royal Doctor Service based in Derby.
