Folkloric recording. Gail Betts talks about her parents' backgrounds; her friendship with Archie Roach (Cox); her schooling; bush dancing; her beginnings as a musician; meeting Kirk Steele. Steele speaks about his family background; his early musical involvement; his accordion teacher; early influences in music; housing in Kalgoolie; changes in Kalgoolie today; open cut mining; working in the mines; early gigs in hotels aged 13; his eclectic style of playing; playing with Kevin 'Bloody' Wilson (Kevin Dennis); his development into country music; touring with country music 'stars'; his interest in Irish music; his contact with 'Mangrove Jack Band'; both now playing locally with local musicians; Steve Whethinhall.
Betts discusses how she met Kirk; her early dance involvement; touring together with the 'Brian Young Show'; her development as a lead singer and guitar player; settling in Mataranka Homestead in 1982; their children’s schooling there; writing a book on local history, 'Mataranka - Land of the Never Never'; how they continue to work around Northern Territory; incorporating Celtic music into their shows; Kirk touring with Slim Dusty, 1992 to 2000; his work with Graeme Connors, 'Dingo' and Seaman Dan; her work with an Indigenous group; his involvement in the 'Frogs Band' at Kuranda, trying to re-establish the Kuranda music scene; Michael Quinn, the 'Gudju Gudju Band'; the 'Tanks' venue, Cairns; how they are still working musicians; their children and their involvement in music; Woodford Festival; they play some tunes together, using accordion and piano.
