George 'Blue' Ellis, born Mundaring Weir, W.A., talks about his career in the sheep and cattle industry, droving, shearing, camp manager, stock work, fencing; his marriage (1959) and children; working as an oyster farmer; working on a cattle stud at Narrabri, N.S.W.; a bulldozer accident; moving to Sydney; making sulkies; running a truck fleet for 25 years; his retirement; his childhood and family; early employment, working for J. P. Stratton; the Kimberley area and his attachment to the East Gascoyne/ Murchison area; working on uranium mine at Rum Jungle; droving with Geoff Nixon; stock routes travelled; terminology; stampeding; lancewood trees; the character of a good night horse; drover's responsibilities, maintaining numbers; description of a drover's average day, division of watch duties, lack of sleep, proximity of cattle to the camp fire, layout of the mob; counting moving bullocks; contract work, delivery count; humorous incidents, practical jokes; newspapers; cattle care while travelling; the underestimation of a drover's skills/knowledge; the appeal of the droving life; sharing unfenced stock routes with other travelling cattle mobs, finding feed and water; daily mileage, width of travel on stock route; camping "on fences"; compares droving sheep and cattle; livestock comparison.
