Brand speaks about her paternal and maternal grandfathers; her unusual childhood; the influence of William Fern Wannan on her writing; various jobs held; the publication of her first book of poems "Wheel and Bobbin"; her writing in other forms; her first play "Here under heaven"; her visit to Moscow in 1953 and writers she met in the Soviet Union; the production of her play "Better a millstone" by the Sydney New Theatre; reasons for living in Vietnam during 1956-57; source of her material; her method of work; her thoughts on the future of Australian theatre. Brand reads an extract from her play "Strangers in the land"; she also reads the poems: "Lass of love" and "Sonnet for Sunday".
