Peter Oyston, creator of Victorian College of Performing Arts, speaks about his Australian mother, actress Sheila Florence eloping with a British army officer; being born before WWII; the earliest days in war-time Britain; farm-life in north of England; being sent to boarding school at 4 1/2 years in the Lake District; his father's death and remarriage of mother; returning to Australia with mother and siblings, step father preceding them; living in Melbourne; mother and step-father renting in Prahran; his education; learning the difference between the play, director and acting; attending art school; putting on plays and discovering acting; buying a block of land in bush, fire destroying the original house (1962); making the film 'The Kings'; his first marriage; travels from Greece to Wales; living in London; first job, directing at Ipswich, appointed Associate Director at Mermaid Theatre; gets another job at International Film School; Eyeline Films; his appointment to full-time regional job; making their home in Lancaster.
