MS Acc09.176 comprises letters home from Captain Clifford White during his war service in the Northern Territory, 1943-1944, Borneo, 1945-1946, and Japan, 1947-1948, copy of a talk given to Rotary in Alice Springs in 1983, and a spiral bound booklet compiled by White's nephew Peter Loof containing a brief biography, extracts from the letters, records of his war service, and tributes to his war service and teaching career (1 folder).

Captain Clifford (Cliff) James White was born in Numurkah, Victoria, to a farming family. His long career as a teacher and headmaster was interrupted by full time war service in the Australian Army from 1939-1949 in Alice Springs, Katherine, Borneo and Japan. Clifford White was the elder brother of Sir Harold White, former National Librarian of Australia.
