The main part of the volume covers the period 20 June 1871 to 23 Apr. 1877. It contains daily notes on the weather, letters received, personal occurrences, some observations on events in Sydney, and Champion's photographic employment. His diary mentions people and places in the Windsor district.
In the first part of the diary, commenced in 1863, Champion has copied his earlier journal of his voyage from London to Sydney on the barque Andromache in 1841-1842.

Thomas Champion arrived in Australia from England in 1842. He subsequently became a photographer at Windsor, N.S.W. from the 1860s.
